Every time, when we have overripe bananas in our house, they will be made into the simple delicious Kuih Kodok or classic western banana bread as afternoon tea snacks or desserts after dinner. The method and ingredients of Kuih Kodok are very simple and very easy to prepare. This Malaysian authentic snack can be prepared in less than half an hour.
I still remember that one of the snacks I often ate when I was a kid was these “ugly” fried banana balls. At first, I resisted its color a bit, but as long as I take a bite, I will fall in love with the taste. It tastes soft and chewy and has the taste of bananas. It is a delicious afternoon tea snack with coffee or milk tea. Kuih Kodok can generally be found at Malay fried banana stalls at the roadside, or you can try your luck at a stall selling Nyonya pastries.
Common in South East Asia
Fried banana balls have several names Kuih Kodok, Jemput-jemput or Cekodok, Mashed Banana Fritters. In Southeast Asia, such as Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, and Malaysia are one of the most popular snacks. Recipes must be inseparable from bananas, flour, and sugar. Depending on the region, the amount or ingredients may be slightly different. However, the recipe we made today tasted more bananas than flour. If you like a solid taste, some flour can be added. If you made too much of the fried banana balls, they can be stored in the refrigerator. The taste is still good after steamed on the next day.
